hiking up the Swiftcurrent Pass trail and the lookout in Glacier National Park

This trails leads to beautiful views of the Swiftcurrent valley and all the lakes in it. The trailhead is located at the far end of the Swiftcurrent Motel parking lot. About a mile in the wooded area keep a careful eyes for moose, since you will have lakes on your left.

You will eventually go past the lakes and hike along the creek that feeds them until you hit a mountain and then make a sharp right turn and start a series of switchbacks in order to get elevation towards the pass. Even though the switchbacks are tiring, the views are not.

this video is taken at midway going up the switchback ……………

Once you get close to the top, the views of the valley below are amazing ………….

You arrive at the pass, tired, but you have a decision to make. You see to your right a hill and on top of that hill is a fire lookout. Go !!!! But that is a hell of a hike since it is all uphill on switchbacks and exposed to the sun. No matter, the views and the rest on top are worth it.

A couple of views from the lookout:

And then you turn around and hike down to the valley.
