hiking in Tattler Creek in Denali National Park
At the Teklanika River stop I told the bus driver to drop me off at Tattler Creek. I think it took 10 minutes to get there from the rest area. People that hike Cathedral Mountain will get off a bit later down the road.
I hiked on the right side of the creek, going upstream. There are a few places where the trail is too steep and would end up at the creek and double back. I could see a social trail for most of the hike, but it is recommended that you don’t walk on it since the park service doesn’t like trails, so you are more than welcomed to step on anything you want.
I was making quite a bit of noise since bears frequent the creek, but lucky I saw nothing.
this is the area where I was about to leave the creek.
I had Sable Mountain mapped on my GPS, so I had a trail to approach it. At some point I left the creek and went up another drainage that is quite steep. The drainage comes down from Sable Mountain and intersects the creek. That is the drainage that I took up a hill and then started looking for a way to have views of the valley below since I was not going to go all the way up to the summit. I found and it was lovely.
Once you reach those viewpoints it is incredible windy.
The views were the highlight of the hike and I spend a few minutes there. The scary part was all the hiking along Tattler Creek since it is noisy and will mask your voice when you yell for bears. I ran into no one at the creek and it is so special to be away from any crowds and really be surrounded by nature.
