Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah, a less known cousin to the Bisti Badlands in New Mexico

Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah is an area less visited than Bisti, but the rock formations here are also spectacular.

The is not trailhead per se, you just drive on a dirt road until you get to a GPS location and park the car on the side of the road. If you parked at the right place, you will notice a faint trail.

The faint trail ends pretty soon and you make a left run to enter the area.

The first thing to look at are the Chocolate Hoodoos; it is like a city of large rocks on top of fragile looking dirt mounds. You enter it by going around the area and eventually finding a way down. You will be walking among them.

Once I explored the chocolate city, I went back to the start and based on my google research went right. It was early in the morning and I could hear the coyotes yelling at each other. The next area had many individual rock formation, but not as impressive as the chocolate hoodoos. I did notice quite a few petrified trees.

My notes had another marked area with another city of hoodoos, so I moved towards it ……….. by taking a bit of a detour to avoid a group of wild horses.

I ran into a mini egg hatchery …….

On the way to the second hoodoo city, I noticed more formations to my left, but I had to climb a lot to get to them, so I bypassed them.

The second city did NOT disappoint !!! And I took pics all over the place.

DISCLAIMER: I brought the colors during editing, those colors were not there as intense as the images below.
